Visual City
Our Visual City solutions provide a comprehensive record of local authority territories and locations to improve decision-making and community engagement.
For those who need to consider multiple disciplines and stakeholders when making decisions, Visual City integrates electronic council data – such as maps, plans, resource consents, building models, transport routes, historical records and photographs – and presents them over an interactive 3D map.
Rather than combining two-dimensional maps with various reports, interdependencies and impacts can be better identified in 3D and associated evidence incorporated into decision-making.
Historical timeline
The great Egyptian scholar Ptolemy spoke of the goal of geography was “…to present the known world as one and continuous, to describe its nature and position…”. Now nearly 2,000 years have passed since Ptolemy stated this goal and we are still seeking to achieve this it in a world faced with an unprecedented level of urbanisation. The accompanying metropolitization of the world economies now means that cities have emerged to become increasingly more significant than nations.
Now, cities are awash with vast amounts of unstructured data.
Challenges facing cities today
Cities face many challenges in today’s environment, including:
- The need to consider multiple disciplines, agencies and experts when decision-making
- The fact that requirements change based on political decisions not evidence , and
- The need to consult extensively on plans with the public and other stakeholders.
Visual City will meet the challenges
- Visual City provides a structure for information that mirrors the real world
- Visualisation enables more intuitive and articulate collaboration while improving the access to information, quality control, and more effective multi-functional utilisation
- By enabling both traditional top down as well as crowd sourcing of information, Visual City ensures greater currency and more meaningful co-association of information
- By ensuring that optimal long-term decisions can be made, and
- Addresses cost management – very important for those responsible the management of public funds.
Visual City brings many benefits
Rather than combining two-dimensional maps with various reports, interdependencies and impacts can be better identified in 3D and associated evidence incorporated into decision-making.
Visual City creates a unified multi-dimensional model, with outputs from 3D CAD, Digital Elevation Models (DEM) and optical remote sensing technologies such as LIDAR (Light Detection And Ranging), plus data fusion with hyper spectral imaging and other emerging data capture systems.
Visual City will enable stakeholders to communicate more effectively and will facilitate better decision making via the comprehension of environmental system dynamics.
In summary
Our Visual City solution provides a comprehensive record of local authorities, transport agencies and utilities for cataloguing information in 3D space and time. Once managed in this way, information can be visually navigated to enable evidence driven decision-making and greater community engagement.
