Mighty River Power: Training Solutions

Mighty River Power is one of New Zealand’s largest electricity companies, with a focus on low-cost electricity generation and sale. 

The problem

Some Mighty River maintenance staff did not have the detailed operational knowledge needed to efficiently follow shutdown procedures at their Nga Awa Purua plant. This led to costly delays.

The solution

A visualisation dashboard helped train Mighty River staff in shutdown procedures without having to access the actual plant. Data from multiple sources was integrated and presented through a single, intuitive interface, which helped staff understand complex procedures. The dashboard also allows simulations of ‘what if’ scenarios to prepare staff for all eventualities. 

Benefits

Operational safety has improved, and training costs reduced. Being able to model and test complex sequential operations without affecting the physical plant has also saved time and money on research.
